Grease on stage in Dubai

Iconic musical making a Middle East stage debut

The iconic musical Grease will be live in the Middle East for the first time this year, following a sold-out run at the UK’s Curve Theatre, and promises to light up the stage and wow audiences young and old at The Dubai World Trade Centre next month.

Originally composed by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the musical rom-com shot to global fame after John Travolta appeared alongside Olivia Newton-John in the 1979 film, and follows a group of cool, quirky teens at Rydell High in 1950s Chicago. The plot revolves around a romance between the rebellious Danny and the innocent new girl, Sandy, during their senior year.

Full of quiffs, bomber jackets and leather pants, this electrifying musical has everything from classic teen crush drama, to heart-warming friendships and peer pressure problems, with staging and costumes as authentic as the original movie, transporting theatre-goers back in time to 1959.

There’s no shortage of rock ‛n’ roll hits to enjoy, either, including the show’s most famous song, Greased Lightning, alongside plenty of other unforgettable hits like Summer Nights, Beauty School Drop Out and You’re the One That I Want.

Curve Artistic Director, Nikolai Foster, says: “Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s musical provides a gripping snapshot of a country on the cusp of social change, all set to one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll scores ever written and we are proud to present our brand-new production of Grease.”

Foster is delighted to have secured a “super-cool” cast to help bring the hugely popular musical to life on the Dubai stage. “This musical is a celebration of the birth of cool, teenage culture and we’ve assembled a super-cool cast who will electrify audiences in Dubai and provide entertainment for the whole family!”

Grease is definitely the word.
