Arrows & Sparrows review

We love the vibe and the food at this new(ish) neighbourhood café

The Greens isn’t exactly known as a culinary hotspot, with its range of big-brand chains dotted around the area, but with the introduction of cute neighbourhood café Arrows & Sparrows, from the same makers as JLT’s Friends Avenue Café, this reputation is beginning to change. Especially for families, as the talented team have also just launched a brand-new kids’ menu, as well as a deal when kids under 11 eat free on weekdays. Result!

Arrows & Sparrows charms us from the start with its pretty little plant-filled terrace, exposed stone walls and quirky décor. But we choose a table by the window, with high seats for little legs to swing on. It’s a busy eatery and has that relaxed neighbourhoood vibe, with many couples and singletons dropping in for a coffee with their iPads and laptops.

Although we spend an anxious few minutes worrying whether the kids will break up this chilled ambience with their usual tricks, we soon relax when they find a distracting box of toys to play with.

From the lovely little grown-ups’ menu, we choose the pan-seared salmon, which comes served with a sautéed spinach and raisin mix that is highly addictive. The sweetness of the raisins are the perfect complement to the rich fish. We also try the crispy seabass, which is served with a hearty portion of colourful vegetables. The moreish truffle fries go down a treat, too.

Meanwhile, the peanut butter and banana on sour bread catches our kids’ eyes. The portions are quite small, however, which means we have to call for another round to fill their tummies. Despite that, a berry and banana milkshake for the kids and creamy cappuccinos for the adults round off our afternoon in The Greens nicely. We’ll be back.
