Bianca Mozzarella & Co review

Fresh, traditional food in a pleasant, relaxed setting

Food

There’s no shortage of options when hunger strikes down at The Beach. However, for something a little more rustic, Bianca Mozzarella & Co is worth stopping off at.

Set off the main thoroughfare, we love the pretty Italian décor – the stripey cushions, whitewashed wooden furniture and especially the cheese grater candle holders. In cooler weather a quaint al fresco area is a pleasant spot to sit, too.

With mozzarella being in the restaurant’s title, it’s safe to say that the standout ingredient is, of course, the creamy Italian cheese. The chef here uses it in plenty of ways – caprese, burrata etc. – although, we suggest you try the fried version. Hot, gooey cheese is perfectly melted and covered in a crisp coating. Fresh basil leaves and sweet cherry tomatoes cut through the richness.

Although there’s not a kids’ menu, any of the main pasta dishes, including the spaghetti bolognese, can be adapted for smaller diners on request. Pizzas can also be scaled down.

Peckish parents could do worse than go for the calzone, a sizeable portion packed with veg and, you guessed it, mozzarella.

Parmesan lovers will adore the spaghetti alla nerano (just don’t wear your tightest jeans).

Simple, effective and extremely tasty, Bianca is an excellent choice for JBR diners.
Open daily noon-2am. Unlicensed. The Beach, JBR (04 554 9459).

The bottom line
Family-friendly with homely cooking.
