An exciting, immersive science and nature experience has just opened its doors at City Centre Mirdif and we can’t wait to step inside.
First seen in Japan, Orbi is “a game-changing, multi-sensory experience” (and a first in the Middle East), endorsed by renowned Arab explorer Nabil Al Busaidi and BBC Worldwide. Orbi Dubai features innovative audio-visual technology and interactive walk-through touchpoints, plus spectacular exhibits, including giant interactive screens featuring life-size visuals of animal shapes, where visitors can reach out and it responds with pop-up facts.
“[It’s] a multi-sensory experience that visitors can smell, see and hear, with their journey brought to life using physical sensations, astonishing imagery, high-tech sound installations and scent technology,” explains Damien Latham, chief executive officer at Majid Al Futtaim, Leisure and Entertainment.
The attraction has received a “fantastic” welcome from the community so far, says Latham. “Children have loved being plunged into the heart of the natural world and it has been wonderful to watch their reactions as they experience planet Earth in all its glory.” Al Busaidi, who was the first Arab to walk to the magnetic North Pole, has been appointed as a Nature Ambassador for Orbi Dubai. “I’m passionate about the world we live in and the extraordinary elements that make up our planet,” he tells us. “It is so important to educate children about the natural worlds.”
While this all sounds amazing, Orbi Dubai’s pièce de résistance is its theatre space, which screens custom-made BBC Earth films, amplified by two massive screens behind the audience to create a 360-degree edutainment experience. It also generates wind, fog, vibrations and even smells to tease the senses. Indoor summer fun just got a whole lot more interesting, folks!
