Farriers Friday family roast

There’s more than meats the eye at The Meydan Hotel’s comforting summer offering

There’s something about spending so much time inside, under the chill of the air-conditioning, that brings out a craving for warm, comfort food. And where better to satisfy those rumblings than at a roast dinner-inspired lazy, family Friday feast?

The Meydan Hotel welcomes mid-summer-holiday, slightly-jaded parents and their no-sign-of-slowing-down offspring to its hugely spacious, light and airy equestrian-themed Farriers restaurant. Complete with indoor bouncy castle and super-busy kids’ area, this is the perfect place for an afternoon of catching up and tucking in.

The live jazz band sets up as we head towards the huge spread, which goes way beyond just roast dinners. We can’t resist the tasty sushi and dim sum selection, alongside beautifully presented miniature beef tataki, poached prawns and grilled scallops. The carvery can wait, for now.

The eldest makes a bee-line for the huge Yorkshire puddings (leaving just enough plate space for a few token veggies) as we opt for the salt-crusted salmon with lemon butter sauce. The tender fish tastes as impressive as it looks, and is an excellent precursor to the main event – the roast.

A selection of beef, turkey and lamb is carved to your command, and every imaginable accompaniment is available.

It’s also utterly delicious.

Throughout the meal the kids fire between the table and the supervised children’s area, while a popcorn machine, candy floss maker and obligatory chocolate fountain push this up there among one of the best family buffet offerings we’ve come across in the city.

The kids are well catered for and the food is top-notch. This is one Friday gathering to get to before the summer’s out.
