Premier League legends coming to Dubai academy

Rio Ferdinand and Eidur Gudjohnsen to lead two-week training camps in Jumeirah

Budding football stars, parents looking to get their kids into the sport, or parents who love Man Utd or Chelsea will want to head along to a kids’ football academy opening up for two stints this October.

Premier League legends Rio Ferdinand (formerly of Manchester United, West Ham and England) and Eidur Gudjohnsen (formerly of Chelsea, Barcelona and Iceland) are joining a range of UEFA-certified coaches at two five-day events taking place at the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach.

The Football Escapes events will take place between Monday October 16 to Friday 20, and Monday October 23 to Friday 27. Open to footballing stars in the making, aged between five and 15, the academy will take place on the grass playing fields by the beach, with daily morning and afternoon sessions offering two-and-a-half hours of coaching from professionals who have played at the very highest level, winning almost everything there is to win in the game.

Expect technical guidance, tactical insight and advice, quick thinking and decision making skills, plus small sided games to improve speed, passing accuracy and technique.

“It’s great to be joining Football Escapes again and we’re looking forward to running coaching courses for kids at Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach this October,” said Ferdinand, who has previously been involved with the academy.

Morning sessions will run from 9am to 10.30am, and afternoon sessions will run from 5pm to 6pm. That’s 12-and-a-half hours of coaching from Ferdinand and Gudjohnsen, for Dhs3,000 per child per week – and comes with a full special edition kit, plus a medal and certificate signed by the pros.

But act fast, the academy is limited to 40 children per week.

Dhs3,000. Oct 16-20, 23-27. 9am-6pm. Four Seasons Resort Dubai, Jumeirah Beach (04 270 7777).
