Bouchon Bakery review

New bakery from Michelin-starred chef is worth a visit to The Beach

Food

When a chef whose restaurants boast seven Michelin stars between them sets up camp in your city, it’s time to pay the new eatery a visit en famille.

Bouchon Bakery, from US chef Thomas Keller, opened up at The Beach this summer and is proving a popular dining addition to the family-friendly area.

The brasserie is light and spacious (there’s even plenty of room for buggies between the tables) and is pleasantly busy. There’s no kids menu as yet, but all dishes can be adapted into smaller portions for tiny bellies.

From cheese sarnies to French toast (deliciously sweet and satisfying, served with banana and custard) there’s plenty to tempt little diners, too. Parents, meanwhile, don’t miss the avocado toast, where the smashed fruit is paired with feta and piquillo marmalade.

Bouchon Bakery also boasts a pastry counter, packed with yummy sweets. The chocolate chunk cookie is a winner. It’s a great treat for little ones, packed full of massive chocolate chips and big enough to share.

There’s also monkey bread (a gooey, caramelly baked goodie) that may make it hard to leave without a takeaway bag. Which is not a bad idea, either, as you can pack up a picnic to take with you if you’re after a day by the sea with the gang. Dining in or out, Bouchon’s worth a visit.
Open Sun-Thu 8am-11pm; Fri-Sat 8am-midnight. The Beach, opposite JBR(04 419 0772).

The bottom line
Tasty baked treats to be had, for all ages.
