Eggspectation review

Eggs-citing (ahem) brand-new location for this popular Canadian gaff

Eggspectation’s flagship eatery at The Beach, opposite JBR, is a firm favourite for breakfasting families. So we can’t wait to try the new location at the ever-popular City Walk for an early-evening dinner.

On our visit, the restaurant is fairly quiet, so we suspect the word has yet to spread about just how stunning the views across to the Burj Khalifa and Business Bay from the outside terrace are.

The eldest’s mini burger sliders are deliciously tender (we couldn’t resist a try) and the youngest’s fish goujons look melt-in-the-mouth perfect. She’s not sharing, though.

We are so taken by the creamy lobster mac and cheese that we never want it to end, and we wish we’d ordered two of the brie and walnut crostini for starters.

Portion sizes here are incredibly generous, so it’s a wonder we have room for dessert. But the choco-banana pancakes prove too difficult for us to resist and the kids tuck into the strawberry and ice-cream versions, pretty much licking the plates clean.

Service is swift and friendly, and a walk around this vibrant, growing neighbourhood afterwards rounds off an altogether repeatable experience. Given this visit, we can’t wait to go back to try that breakfast, too.

The bottom line
A top new spot, not just about the eggs.
