Hello Kitty Run is coming to Dubai

The hotly anticipated Hello Kitty Run is coming to Dubai for the second year running and promises to be bigger and better than the 2016 edition, which proved an instant hit.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave all these years, you will surely have heard of this fabulously friendly feline whose cute visage adorns pencil cases and backpacks the world over.

And now the cuddly cat is hoping to inspire her fans (and even children who can’t stand the sight of her) to get out and get fit by signing up for this 5km fun run being held at Zabeel Park on December 8.

More than 5,000 runners are expected to hit the starting line for this fun-filled event, with athletes as young as three invited to sling on their running shoes and show Kitty just what they’re made of.

The Hello Kitty Run was first raced in Taiwan in November 2014 to mark the cute cartoon cat’s 40th birthday (she hasn’t aged a bit if you ask us). That day more than 25,000 runners flocked to take part.

Since that first edition, the race has gone from strength to strength and is now run across Asia with stagings held in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Hello Kitty’s native Japan.

Participants here in Dubai have added incentive to sign up (especially if they are a fan) as each runner will receive an official Hello Kitty Run Dubai 2017 T-shirt along with some special gifts, all packed in the limited-edition Hello Kitty drawstring bag, while all runners who cross the finish line will receive a limited-edition Hello Kitty Run Dubai 2017 medal, while there’s a prize for best fancy dress.

There will also be an Entertainment Village where runners can take their best selfies in front of the Hello Kitty photo walls, get race ready with the official Hello Kitty warm-up session and enjoy face painting, balloon bending, food and beverage stalls and the opportunity to meet the star of the show herself.
From Dhs110. December 8, 9pm-noon. Zabeel Park, www.hkrundubai.com.
