Environmentally-friendly practices are educators’ latest inspiration in the UAE, with new “green” schools opening this next academic year.
Fairgreen International School, a sustainability-focused school, will be opening in The Sustainable City in September 2018.
The school is celebrating the upcoming launch of its Health, Wellness and Learning Centre with American global green educator Stephen Ritz.
Visiting Dubai on Saturday March 3, Ritz will speak at a series of events including Fairgreen International School’s open day at 10am, which parents and kids can attend for free.
“I’m excited to bring my ‘yes we can’ spirit from the South Bronx to Dubai to create a model that will impact the world! Here, we’ll use STEAM principles to focus on teaching kids how easy it is to incorporate a healthy diet into our lives,” he says.
Ritz will lead schoolchildren in Dubai towards a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle, supporting Fairgreen and other schools under Esol, its educational provider.
“With an alarming rise in childhood obesity worldwide and in the UAE, coupled with threats to food crop safety, it’s necessary for us to teach our children to make positive choices both for their health and our planet, “ Ritz adds.
Renowned as “America’s favourite teacher,” Ritz is author of The Power of a Plant and founder of the Green Bronx Machine, a non-profit US organisation.
Ritz will also be holding evening sessions at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature on Friday March 2 and Saturday 3, with ticket prices starting from Dhs45.
Now that’s a green weekend!
