Adventure awaits

Leaping into a new birthday year takes on a whole new meaning

Adventure awaits

Afew balloons here and there, and some party treats: that’s what a kids’ birthday bash meant back in the day. Luckily, things have changed, and the kids can now do everything from zip-lining to surfing their way through trees at birthdays, in addition to munching on pizza, of course.

Why throw a party at home when there’s so much fun to be had outside? Out of so many venues to choose from, Aventura, Dubai’s first zip-lining park, offers something that has caught our attention. Designed for kids aged six and above, it makes for a fun way to celebrate while having the kids break a sweat. The playground, located in Mushrif Park, Mirdif, can host birthday parties for groups of up to 60 kids. It has more than 80 activities across five different circuits, so kids can explore and challenge themselves, giving mum and dad the opportunity to relax and watch from afar. Or if you’re an adventurous parent, you can put yourself right in the middle of the action, too. Totally your call.

But how different is throwing a smashing birthday party at an outdoor venue with lots of movement from a mellow, whistles-and-cake kind of affair?

“When it comes to party food and decorations, the key is to not overdo it,” Hadi Fakhoury, Aventura’s managing director, tells us. “There are always a lot of leftovers at kids’ parties and most parents tend not to eat. And with decorations, it’s always good to remember that you, the parent, might care about getting the right decorations in the perfect shades and sizes, but the kids will likely be completely oblivious to it!” See, we told you attention to detail was overrated.

“Aventura provides a dedicated party area that you have exclusively for two hours, with tables, chairs and decorations all included. Each kid will get a choice of home-made pizza, healthy chicken tenders and fries, or burger and fries. Aventura Café is also open all day, serving delicious dishes to satisfy adults. Another bonus, the chef is quite picky and uses high quality ingredients!”

At Aventura, they also assign a dedicated party host, so you can focus on having fun with the kids. Hard to remember when you’re in the thick of it, but you should be having fun too.

And by fun we mean joining in on the circuits! The park hosts three of them: Rangers is a circuit specially designed for young kids, made up of short, easy challenges at a low height. Explorador is designed for families and it’s made up of not-too-difficult bridges and zip lines, a great introduction to the world of treetop adventures. Aventura is a medium-difficulty circuit for youngsters and adults, finishing off with three zip lines in a row. Extreme is is where older kids and adults can go for the 25-metre Tarzan jump and surf through the trees.

Let’s not forget that you’re also inside a park, so there’s loads to explore. There are the Ghaf trees at the corner of Mushrif Park, and flowers and greenery all around.

The kids got messy? Fear not. Aventura has bathrooms with shower facilties for any chocolate emergencies. And, of course, there are indoor seating areas for when the weather gets a bit too... extreme.
From Dhs175 per child. Free for adults unless taking part in circuits. Open Sun-Wed 10am-7.30pm; Thu-Sat 9am-9pm. Aventura Parks, Mushrif Park, Mirdif (052 1787 616).
