JBR celebrates female cartoon heroines

Free movie nights to feature inspiring female character-led animations

Activities

International Women’s Day falls on Thursday March 8 and Dubai venues are celebrating with different events.

One of the most fun Women’s Day events is taking place at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), and it’s bound to be a winner among families with kids.

From Thursday March 8 to Saturday 10, JBR is set to mark the day with a movie line-up filled with superstar female characters whose animated films have made waves during the past few years.

All by Walt Disney Animation, JBR’s outdoor screenings are part of the #WOWJBR campaign, and feature mega-blockbusters Brave, Frozen, and Moana – all spearheaded by women who have shown courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

Playing up first in Movies under the Stars is Brave on Thursday March 8, which tells the story of the impulsive Merida, a young princess. Determined to follow her own path in life, she inadvertently unleashes Scottish Lords’ wrath.

On Friday March 9, it’s time for Frozen, an ice-cold tale of a fearless princess who goes on an adventure to find her sister whose powers have trapped their kingdom in an icy eternity.

The movie nights continue on Saturday March 10 with Moana, the very persistent daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe who is chosen by the ocean to save a green goddess and – consequently – her people.

Now that sounds like women’s month, not day, to us – and we’re happy to spend it with our favourite on-screen animated ladies.
Free. Mar 8-9, 6pm-7.30pm, Mar 10, 7pm-9pm. Rimal Square, JBR.
