Being a beachfront destination isn’t La Mer’s only selling point. Quirky graffiti and massive trampolines aside, kid-friendly dining is one of the Meraas hotspot’s top-rated, mum-approved features.
We all know and love Sugar Factory from Dubai Festival City, an ever-sweet venue that’s popular among kids and adults alike, especially the ones that adore desserts.
The colourful, happy Sugar Factory’s new, smaller La Mer branch is cute and beachy. If you choose to sit indoors, the candy shop is a good reminder of a mighty sugar rush. However, when the weather’s cooler, there’s also an al fresco area to dine in, from which to admire the passing supercars.
After a good 30 minutes of eyeing the desserts, we decide to go for some appetisers first. We’re quick to dismiss any judgements we may have had over “dessert shop food” at the sight of the buttermilk-battered chicken tenders. Fully coated in buffalo sauce, they are the right amount of crispy with a hint of spiciness. Outdoing these though, are some glorious fried bao buns with sriracha chicken, beef teriyaki, and more buffalo chicken. We could eat these airy buns for days, and only wish the fillings are a bit more plentiful.
For dessert, we go for pancakes: one’s deliciously covered in strawberries, Nutella, marshmallows, and more, the buttermilk base soaked in sugary goodness. The other is all red and velvety with vanilla cheesecake chunks and lashings of rich maple syrup.
Sugar Factory’s desserts are perfection, savoury dishes just as good, and the service quick and attentive. There are so many delicious sounding dishes that we’ll definitely be heading back. All-in-all it’s a pretty dangerous place for food lovers, in the best of ways.
