Bahri Bar at Mina A’ Salam (04 366 6730). Watch the sun set over the Gulf and simultaneously reflect off the Burj Al Arab in a rather agreeable manner.

See the sun bounce off the Burj Dubai as the light disappears down its glass walls.

Uptown Bar, Jumeirah Beach Hotel (04 406 8762). This place faces away from the setting sun, resulting in a view of the city lit up like fire. And it’s one of the few bars with a view that’s actually outside, instead of through dust-covered windows.

The Observatory, Harbour Hotel & Residence, Dubai Marina (04 319 4000). Go here for a fantastic view of the sun setting over The Palm.

Escape your tower block to watch the sun go down while sitting on the beach at JBR.

See the arc of the earth and the sky lit up from a plane as you jet off somewhere exciting.

Head over a desert dune, taking pictures of your mates posing as funny silhouettes in the evening shadows.

Neos bar on the 63rd floor of The Address Hotel (04 436 8928). It has some of the best views in the city any time of day, let alone during a sunset.

360°, Jumeirah Beach Hotel (04 406 8769). The al fresco, circular bar-at-sea is the place to be at 5pm on a Friday or Saturday. Though whether it’s to catch the sunset, or gaze at all the beautiful people there before it gets too dark is still a mystery. Reopens in winter.

The aptly-named Sunset Beach to the right of Jumeirah Beach Hotel, if you’re looking at the sea. Dubai’s surfers gave it the title for a reason.
