Burj Khalifa LIVE blog

The latest as it happens from the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower...

Burj Khalifa, The Knowledge

Okay, so we're at the Burj Dubai. Traffic wasn't too bad getting here but the crowds are already gathering.

Just spoken to friends who are planning parties at apartments with views of the Burj Tower. Looks like it's going to be a big night.

It's crazy here. People are already in the queue to get tickets for 'At The Top' when the tower opens to the public. There is also a bit of a mob forming outside the VIP area. You'd think that this was the tallest building in the world or something. More soon...

Get us, we're in the VIP area. Very nice indeed, lots of comfy seats and big screens with pictures of Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Khalifa on them, to remind us why we're all here. We've also just spotted a large Godolphin-branded hot air balloon firing up outside. Not sure why, as yet.

We think that we've just seen Sheikh Hamdan. On your marks, people, this could mean that things are about to start...

The Godolphin hot air balloon has now taken off. How exciting!

Six lone balloons have just been released. Your guess is as good as ours...

Huge fountain display, higher than normal. Wow!

People in parachutes are now gliding down from the top of the Burj tower...

Sheikh Mohammed has just announced that the Burj Dubai has been renamed the Burj Khalifa in honour of the ruler of the UAE.

Spontaneous applause as the Burj Khalifa's final height is revealed - 828 metres tall (we were 10 metres out with our estimate). Just waiting for the fireworks now.

We have literally never seen so many fireworks. Amazing!
