Diabetes for tea?
In case you’ve been living in a giant vat of sugar for the past few years, you’ll know that the UAE has a big problem with type 2 diabetes. According to recent reports, one in every four people in the UAE suffers from the condition. Fortunately, an extensive diabetes awareness campaign was launched early last year, for which posters can be spotted fluttering along the length of Jumeirah Beach Road. Unfortunately, the back of these posters are covered with ads for McDonalds. Hardly the best diet to opt for if you’re looking to dodge the disease, eh?

A right knees up
Guess which Time Out editor nearly forced the Burj Khalifa to miss its opening deadline? Arriving at the entrance three months ago for a special preview, equipped with passport and all the necessary documents, she was denied entry – due to the knee-length dress she was wearing. ‘You’ll distract the construction workers; it’s not appropriate,’ she was told by the security staff, before returning later in trousers and successfully getting inside. Would the Burj Khalifa have opened any later due to a little bit of knee? We’ll never know.
