The Knowledge

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, is mourning the death of his younger brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE starts three days of mourning today (Wednesday) and while sporting events will go ahead as planned other events may be cancelled or rescheduled.

9.15am: Il Divo concert rescheduled for Saturday April 3

Statement from the organisers
Flash Entertainment offers its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In respect of the official three day period of mourning, Il Divo in Concert, which is part of Abu Dhabi Festival 2010, has been rescheduled from Friday 2 April to the following day - Saturday 3 April.

The concert will take place at the Emirates Palace West Park, and all door and start times remain as planned. All tickets issued will be valid for Saturday 3rd April.

9.30am: ‘From Here to There’ gig postponed from March 31 until April 25.

9.55am: The DTCM has given written approval for the Vanilla Ice gig to go ahead at Barasti, provided there are no laser shows or fireworks.

Statement from the organisers
The DTCM has given permission to proceed with our planned event featuring Vanilla Ice and Snap! at Barasti Beach this evening.

Alcohol will be available at the event which begins at 5pm.

11.55am: This Friday’s ‘Home’ event with DJ Yoda, Trevor Nelson and Dan Greenpeace at Chi is going ahead.

1.09pm: Zee Dubai Mega Mela 2010 will take place as scheduled from Thursday 1 April to Saturday 3 April at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.

3.30pm: Vanilla Ice/Snap! gig at Barasti now off the cards again; official statement on Barasti’s Facebook page reads:

“Due to the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Barasti has cancelled tonight’s performance of Vanilla Ice and Snap.

“Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and Barasti would like to extend our sincere condolences to President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his family for the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”
