What’s the area like?
International. The vast neighbourhood is divided into ‘clusters’ named after different countries. Many of the clusters’ residents are actually from said countries (although this is far from compulsory).
As it’s a little out of town, more or less everything is – and has to be – on your door step: 24/7 shops, barbers, restaurants, laundry shops and so on. Then there’s always the Chinese shopping labyrinth that is Dragon Mart.
Those who want to live alone, as one-beds and studios are readily available.
Its cheaper than average rent prices and it has a community feel. It’s also great for Dragon Mart fans. The nearby Desert Palm is a gorgeous complex with great restaurants such as Epicure.
You can feel isolated from the rest of the city – such as the marina, Jumeirah and Bur Dubai. The traffic coming in and out of the area during rush hour makes the heart heavy, it’s smelly in certain areas (due to the waste dump next door) and it lacks pavements, paths and ATM machines.
Average cost of a two-bed apartment in International City: To rent Dhs60,000. To buy Dhs900,000.
