The season is heating up climate-wise, but also for dining, since there are plenty of new restaurants, food deals and menus to share with you. Due to open this week at Citywalk Mall is a new burger joint, called (wait for it), burger joint New York, and not to be confused with the existing The Burger Joint at Atlantis The Palm. The New York-born concept prides itself on a simple, uncomplicated and homely burger menu, with minimal choices (apparently only two on the menu), aside from how you want the meat to be cooked.
If you’re watching your weight and off the burgers, you will probably welcome new fast-food salad bar Just Salad, which is due to open soon in cluster D, Jumeirah Lakes Towers.
Also new, open and officially launching this week is Casa de Tapas. Originally intended to be the downstairs dining room at Cielo, and under the same name, the decision has been taken to give the restaurant its own name and a little independence. Casa de Tapas promises a rustic, bodega-inspired setting, live music and a menu of Spanish classics. These include steamed clams with garlic, Galician-style octopus with potatoes and smoked paprika and the Catalan recipe, fried aubergine with date syrup (a little different from the more typical dish with honey). Paella also features highly on the menu, such as paella de fideua, made with vermicelli and squid ink.
There is also a run of new menus to sample. Rang Mahal by Atul Kochhar has launched a nine-course degustation menu, called ‘navratan’, which means nine jewels in Hindi. Dishes include roasted aubergine, peppers, (locally made) burrata cheese, coriander, garlic and kasuri salt and also Scottish scallops with caramelised garlic and textures of cauliflower.
Belgian café Maison Mathis in Arabian Ranches has introduced new elements to its menu, such as a breakfast menu featuring egg dishes and pain perdu (the French name for French toast) and freshly made Belgium waffles.
There are also new dishes to be enjoyed at Jazz@PizzaExpress. These include Romana pizzas, which have a crispier base and the new Romana recipes include affumicato (smoked chicken, mushrooms and fontina cheese) and the vegetarian-friendly caprina rossa (beetroot, goat’s cheese, rocket and pesto).
Finally, towards the end of this month, the English contingent among Dubai’s expats will be celebrating the feast day of England’s patron saint, George. The Hub will be launching Saint George’s Day deals, running from Sunday April 20-26. Diners will be able to enjoy an ‘English burger’ along with a bucket of four beverages for Dhs195 per person.
Until next week, bon appétit!
