White kitchen in Burj Khalifa apartment
Bishop Design

Ellen Bishop of Bishop Design is behind this crisp clean kitchen. She explains how the look came together. ‘One of the main challenges with this kitchen was that in the Burj Khalifa, you have these massive columns in the middle of the dining room, so we made the corner of that column into a sideboard for that room and the kitchen. We created storage around it and added the flute vases from Roche Bobois as a decorative element. The client wanted a space for entertaining family and friends, and they were keen to have an open-plan solution for the kitchen.

The brief was to keep the kitchen integrated with the dining space and since it is open to the formal areas, I thought it should be as neutral as possible and have a very elegant and light impression. This kitchen shouldn’t necessarily be something you notice when you walk in. White offers a classy look and the kitchen is from Purity so it’s high-end, too, which makes it all the more beautiful when you use white. The top-quality spec gives you a beautiful result.

I love the fact that everything is integrated. We built it in a way that gave us maximum storage without looking bulky, and the bar in the middle creates a very social atmosphere.’

Living room

Living room in DIFC
Elemento Design

Paula Evans, lead designer at Elemento Design, details the challenges of creating this luxury living space. ‘Our design brief was to deliver a stylish, comfortable and luxurious apartment that was also functional, incorporating office space. The client loves to entertain, so it was essential to provide a relaxing area where he and his guests could be completely at ease. One particular design element, which was extremely challenging, was the requirement to accommodate my client’s extensive collection of books, records, CDs, DVDs and cassettes, plus his vast array of audio equipment. The core request was simple, but it was challenging to achieve – the apartment had to reflect my client’s lifestyle without appearing to be an office, bookshop or record store.

Nothing is on display, but is instead incorporated into areas that are perceived to be a series of bespoke panels. Even the office blends into the rest of the apartment, with one area seamlessly flowing into the next. Everything in the room is bespoke – the rugs, the curtains, cushions, all furniture. We didn’t purchase anything from any major retailers because the purpose of the project was to deliver a unique look where every aspect of design was tailored to this end.’

Garden

Garden in Arabian Ranches
Toscana Landscaping and Pools

Bart Lauwers, swimming pools manager at Toscana, details the highlights of this stunning garden. ‘We had a compact plot where the client requested lots of functionality such as dining and sitting areas, as well as a spa and a fire feature. The villas in Arabian Ranches are quite contemporary in build and we were requested to individualise the look and feel of the garden by creating unique elements such as glass pool walls, sunken seating with fire features and wall features.

The functionality of the barbecue area is characterised by a wood-fired pizza oven as well as a marble countertop, which adds a feel of luxury to the whole area. This garden took about four months from design to completion and my favourite features in it are the glass pool walls and the sunken seats with fire feature.’
