5 questions for Jamie Cullum

The Knowledge

1. You’re performing at The St. Regis Dubai on Thursday March 31. What’s in store?
I just sit down at the piano, feel the room and go from there. It’ll be an intimate gig.

2. You’re working on your eighth album. What can fans expect?
I’m getting older and hopefully wiser. I know more about life and my observations are more acute. It doesn’t mean you always get to put them into your music, though, as it’s hard to translate your feelings, but I’m trying to make sure that it has some sense of value.

3. Are there any collaborations on it?
I’ve worked with Frank Ocean, Pharrell Williams and Labrinth. Whether this all ends up on the record, I don’t know.

4. What makes a song great?

If it says something and leaves an imprint on you.

5. Has age affected your outlook on the industry?

I’ve always tried to focus on being a musician more than anything. I haven’t really had to worry about the way I look. I don’t have the same pressure as someone like Justin Bieber. Being older helps, you just sweat the small stuff less.
