A delegation from the People's Daily of China, which boasts a circulation of three million, has met with the National Media Council and discussed the possibility of publishing an overseas edition of the newspaper in the UAE, news agency WAM reported.

The publishers said the paper would cater for the 200,000 Chinese expatriates living and working in the country.

People's Daily began publishing in June 1948 and is currently among the world's top 10 selling papers, according to UNESCO figures.

NMC director general Ibrahim Al Abed promised the delegation cooperation within the framework of the country's media rules and regulations.
