Dubai gathered by the tallest tower in the world, the Burj Khalifa, while many more took to the streets to celebrate Dubai's greatest achievement to date on Monday January 5.

Parachutes sailed through the skies while hot air balloons rose into the night as crowds stopped to gaze in wonder at the 828 metres tall skyscraper.

There were also parties in the street across the city as fireworks went off to mark Sheik Mohammed's opening speech at the ceremony, during which he renamed the Burj Dubai the Burj Khalifa in honour of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, President of the UAE.
