Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen training in Doha...

Strikers Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen were among a Manchester United squad led by manager Alex Ferguson which arrived in Doha on Sunday for a short training camp. The Premier League champions, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham on Saturday, will train at Doha's Aspire Academy before returning to Manchester on Thursday - two days before facing Burnley.

Rooney returns to Doha after featuring in England's 1-0 friendly defeat by Brazil in November. The Doha academy regularly hosts training camps for clubs and national teams.

The club, meanwhile, is planning to refinance its huge debt with a bond sale it hopes will raise £500 million (Dh2.96 billion.

The bond sale could significantly reduce the interest United pays on the debt American businessman Malcolm Glazer took on to buy the Premier League club for £790 million in 2005.

United released annual results on Monday showing it paid £41.9 million in interest on bank loans for the year ending June 30, 2009.
