Paolu Nutini in Dubai

Was Paolo Nutini's much-hyped Irish Village gig as good as we thought it would be?

The tickets sold like quicksilver; the high-spirited crowd arrived early and the band counted in on time – but was the hype surrounding Scots singer Paolo Nutini’s gig warranted?

Trance-like and tortured, the Paisley boy crooned through most of his blues and jazz-influenced second album Sunny Side Up, a handful of the more crowd-pleasing earlier hits, as well as a rousing cover of MGMT’s ‘Time To Pretend’.

While the set may have been only an hour and a half, the vast band, pumped crowd and main man’s simply phenomenal vocals guaranteed the performance more than lived up to its puff.

10/10 indeed.
