Etisalat to add mobile spam filter

Unwanted promotional text messages can be blocked by Etisalat subscribers

Etisalat has announced details of how its UAE customers can block unwanted promotional text messages from the telecoms operator.

According to an ‘anti-spam’ directive issued by the country’s Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA), telcos Etisalat and du have been forced to give customers the right to be selective with regards the SMS that they receive.

Now customers who send ‘b etisalat’ via SMS to 1011 will be unsubscribed from the promotional marketing messages they receive from Etisalat, the telco said in a statement. The service would be free of charge, it said.

If customers wish to subscribe again to the promotional SMS service, they can do so by sending ‘ub etisalat’ to 1011, the statement added.
