UAE-BlackBerry talks make progress

There is hope that BlackBerry ban decision may be reversed

Yousef al-Otaiba, the UAE's ambassador to the United States, has stated that discussions between the Canadian makers of BlackBerry smartphone and of the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) are going well. He also stated that he ‘hopes’ the talks will lead to a suspension of the UAE's telecoms regulator’s ban on BlackBerry services, set for to start from October 11. TRA spokesperson Huda al-Mutawa stated: ‘Talks are still ongoing between the Emirati and Canadian parties, and we hope that we will reach a final solution that would satisfy us. So far, we have not reached a result.’
