Direct debits will soon be available to consumers who want to automatically deduct utility bill amount from their bank accounts every month.

Marwan Salem bin Haider, Vice-President and CIO of the DEWA, said the Dubai government-owned utility company was in talks with banks to make available the automated-direct payment facility through customers’ bank accounts.

Diego Maradona already had an offer from Al Wasl on the table when he arrived in Dubai on Saturday from the Chechen Republic, a club official said.

Officially, Maradona was visiting the country "to witness the latest developments" at the club, but Ashraf Mohammed, Al Wasl's chief executive, confirmed the Argentine great, 50, was in Dubai to discuss an offer they had made earlier.

New laws will be put in place to regulate all microwave ovens sold in the UAE.

Harmful radiation escapes from the microwave when food residues contaminate door seals, objects are caught between oven door and oven front face; viewing window is damaged, or when the door is damaged, according to the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).

Ten per cent of the total land area of Dubai, about 411 square kilometres, will be dedicated to nature conservation by 2014.

The total protected area currently accounts for approximately 7.3 per cent of Dubai's 4114 square kilometres, according to Mohammed Abdul Rahman Hassan, head of the Marine Environment and Wildlife Section at Dubai Municipality.
