Heavy metal legend Jon Oliva’s Dubai show has been cancelled.

Oliva, the former frontman of US metal band Savatage, was set to perform with his band Pain at the Crowne Plaza in Sheikh Zayed Road tonight.

But the plug was pulled on the gig at the last minute after a problem with luggage when setting off from Brussels Airport.

A statement from the organiser read: ‘The Dubai promoter was willing to go far beyond what made financial sense in order to bring the show to Dubai and stick to his commitment, which makes this (cancellation) even more sad for all parties involved.’

The one-off show would have been Oliva’s first visit to the UAE. The 51-year-old was set to pay a tribute to Savatage’s ‘golden period’ by performing the entirety of their 1987 hit album ‘Hall of the Mountain King’.
