X Factor for Dubai laborours

Camp ka Champ competition to find best singer at labour camps

Knowledge story, The Knowledge

Bored of The X Factor? Yes, so are we, which is why we’re ditching Simon Cowell et al in favour of Lebanese filmmaker Mahmoud Kaabour, who has been working on a documentary about singing competition Camp ka Champ (Hindi for ‘Champ of the Camp’). The contest is for Dubai’s labourers and takes place at their respective camps across the city. Mahmoud and his team followed five contestants during the four-month competition. ‘Some labourer-crooners will give the viewers goosebumps,’ says Mahmoud. The film will hit the festival circuit in 2013.
