Could David Beckham be heading to play for a football club in Dubai?
It may sound far-fetched, but one UAE newspaper’s website has put together an argument for why the football icon would be a perfect fit in Dubai.
Beckham will make his final appearance for his US club LA Galaxy in their championship game against Houston Dynamos on December 1. He is said to be mulling over moves to leagues in Australia and France.
But an article in The National says Beckham should consider the UAE too, saying he would be an even bigger draw for football fans than Diego Maradona, the former Al Wasl coach, or Fabio Cannavaro, the former Al Ahli defender.
The article says: ‘[Beckham] would enter the booming Asia market, and reinforce his considerable “brand”.’
The paper’s website is also reporting that two UAE football observers are urging Pro-League clubs to bid for Beckham.
In 2009, Beckham created a stir in Dubai as an AC Milan player ahead of a friendly with Hamburg.
And with some of the best shopping in the world here, perhaps his fashion-conscious wife Victoria could be convinced to consider the move.
