A Michelin star chef who trained under Gordon Ramsay is to open a restaurant in Dubai.
British celeb chef Jason Atherton has announced plans to open a classy new venue in the emirate. Mixing high-end cuisine with a trendy nightspot, the forthcoming Dubai Marina Social and Social Room will to include a bar and DJ booth alongside dining.
The news comes just days after it was announced two other famous alumni from the Gordon Ramsay school – Dubai’s very own celeb chef duo Nick & Scott – will be leaving their renowned Table 9 restaurant at Hilton Dubai Creek by the end of the year.
Atherton began working with Gordon Ramsay in 2001 as the executive chef for Verre in Dubai, the celebrity chef’s first restaurant outside the UK. Returning to the UK in 2005, Atherton oversaw the launch of Ramsay’s Maze restaurant in the Hilton Prague Old Town hotel.
After further launches in Qatar and Australia, Atherton left Ramsay in 2010 and began setting up his own restaurants, starting with London’s Pollen Street Social, which was awarded a Michelin star.
Meanwhile while Ramsay himself closed his Dubai restaurant Verve in 2011, drawing to a close nine years in the emirate, the chef hinted earlier this year that he may be making a return to the UAE, claiming he was looking at two possible venues.
