Qatar 2022: A winter world cup?

Could FIFA really change the date to dodge the heat?

The Knowledge

Three years after Qatar was awarded the FIFA World Cup 2022 and after many months of debate, the question of whether the World Cup should be moved from summer to winter is raging. New FA chairman Greg Dyke has said it’s ‘impossible’ to host the contest here in the summer not just because of the players but because of the fans. Even Fifa president Sepp Blatter has admitted it is ‘not rational’. Dyke is saying the powers-that-be now have two options: move it to winter or change locations. Well we certainly hope if anything is changed it will be the former and luckily Dyke has been quoted by as saying he believes that is more likely to be the case.

Further discussions will take place in October so we’ll wait and see but we’ve no doubt whether it’s in cool or shine Qatar will find a way to work around obstacles.
