Long renowned as the home of brave and diverse music in Dubai, we’re pleased to see The Fridge weighing in with a typically eclectic line-up for its 14th Concert Series.

Hosting weekly gigs at its base in arty Al Quoz hub, the talent mongers will be serving up everything from jazz, classical and musical theatre to funk-rock, singer songwriters and Arabic fusion.

Kicking off the six-week run is Lebanese jazz pianist Tarek Yamani, who’ll be playing a mix of standards, bossa and Arabic-tinged originals alongside local bass stalwart Elie Afif, on Monday September 30. Check out www.tarekyamani.com/listen for a taste.

A week later Fridge favourite Jason Carter returns and with his 18-string flamenco harp guitar in tow, so expect another evening of enchanting acoustic wizardry – check out www.jasoncarter.net. Then the tempo will be upped by newly formed UAE band Jeremiah & The Lucky Strikes on September 14, who’ll be showcasing tunes from a forthcoming debut album.

On October 21 things go highbrow with a performance from Paul Bester, who, we’re told, is the ‘new tenor in town’. Not too highbrow however – we’ve been promised musical theatre alongside operatic arias.

A week later there’s a special edition of The Fridge’s singer songwriter showcases, which profile local acoustic talent, before things wrap up in fine style with Kamal Musallam on November 4. We’re big fans of Musallam’s – so much so we gave him an award earlier this year – and this is a great chance to catch the Jordanian guitar whizz’s unique mix of jazz, rock and Arabic scales up close and intimate. Showcasing a new project, the oud and guitar player will be joined by five guest musicians from Italy – and a Mexican Flamenco dancer. Thumb up on his old work here.

Tickets for all concerts are Dhs50 for adults, Dhs25 for students and free for under-18s. Doors open daily at 7.30pm, with music kicking off at 8pm each Monday. For more information see: www.thefridgedubai.com.
