British pop star Olly Murs will perform a Valentine’s Day gig in Dubai next year.

The former UK X-Factor finalist is the first headliner to be named for the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival 2014.

And there should be plenty more good musical news to look forward to, with news there will be a total of eight headliners at this year’s event, which will take place at Festival City between Thursday February 13 and Friday February 21 next year.

The move singles a poppier change of tone for the 12th edition of the event, which last year boasted a ‘Rocking the City’ tagline, attracting more than 55,000 people to nine days of music headlined by acts including Deep Purple and 3Doors Down.

In addition to the headline concerts each weekend, the festival will once again host five smaller Jazz Garden gigs on weekdays.

Since losing out to an X-Factor win in 2009, Murs has put out three albums, notched five UK top ten singles and earned four Brit Award nominations. Last year Murs sold more than 250,000 tickets for his UK arena tour, while the singer is set to work with Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow on next year’s fourth solo album.

Murs will have some competition in Dubai however, with US indie-folk band The Lumineers playing on the same evening as part of the new two-day Red Fest DXB festival.
