Sighting of new moon means holiday will be announced across Arab world

Saudi Arabia has announced that tomorrow, October 6, will be the first day of the Hijri month of Dhul Hijjah. Accordingly, the day of Arafat will be on October 14 and the first day of Eid Al Adha will be on October 15.

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has announced that Sunday, October 6, will be the first day of Dhu Al Hijja, and that the first day of Eid Al Adha will be on Tuesday, October 15.

Monday, October 14, will be Arafat Waqfa Day, and Tuesday, October 15, will be the first day of Eid Al Adha, the Saudi Court said in a statement.

"Saturday was the last day of Dhu Al Qa’da and today [Sunday] October 6, will mark the beginning of the lunar month of Dhu Al Hijja,” the Supreme Court said .

In a bid to latch on to the shopping fever that hits Dubai during the Eid holiday, seven of the city’s malls are planning to stay open for a whole 48 hours.

Eid Al Adha will see shoppers visiting their favourite stores around the clock. The participating malls include the world’s largest shopping centre The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Mirdif City Centre.
