We dig up the juicy rumours, new openings and hot events in Dubai’s music and nightlife scene.

The first intriguing piece of information comes from Souk Al Bahar nightspot Sake No Hana Dubai. The venue is launching a special Sunday concept in the form of a ‘secret society’ that will offer an intriguing evening involving the eclectic worlds of art, fashion, and Japanese culture. In terms of music, the organisers are promising special guest DJs from New York and Paris.

Meanwhile, in other news, there’s a new house band at BarZar in Souk Madinat. Few As Much, the former band from defunct Jambase will be returning on Thursday and Friday nights at 9.30pm.

Malika Omar – the Dubai-based musician who has been playing the piano since the age of nine – has released her new single ‘Thoughts of You’. To check it out, visit www.musicmalika.com.

It’s another week so that means yet another opening on the horizon. This time, it’s a new sports concept called Harry’s Sports Bar at Crowne Plaza Dubai in Deira.

Back to Souk Madinat and The Madinat Jumeirah Amphitheatre is now open seven nights a week – so you can chill on the bean bags whenever you fancy.

This Thursday sees Garhoud institution The Irish Village turning 17. Positively ancient in Dubai standards, this venue, which has one of the largest pub gardens in the city, will be running special discounts on drinks, where you can pick up a tipple for Dhs17 all day long. Music will come from house band The Maple Jacks and resident DJ Marky Mark.

Finally, there’s a new ladies’ night option, now that The Dek on 8 has reopened. Perfect timing as the weather is starting to cool down a bit. The night, called Gossip, is on Wednesdays and offers free mixed drinks between 8pm and 11pm.
