Dubai goes solar

New Dhs120 million power station to power one million homes

A Dhs120 million solar power station has gone live in Dubai. The sun-powered facility, 30km south of the city, is expected to produce 1,000 megawatts of power by 2030 (one megawatt can power 1,000 homes). The energy station is part of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which aims to make the emirate’s power five percent reliant on solar energy in 17 years time. The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Solar Park is phase one of what will eventually be a 280,000sqm facility.
