New Year’s Eve isn’t necessarily about splashing the cash. There are plenty of spots to watch the city’s outlandishly spectacular displays without spending a dirham. One of the best places to head is Burj Park, where you’ll enjoy an unrivalled view of the Downtown Dubai display from the Burj Khalifa. Be warned though, congestion can be extremely heavy for New Year, so we’d recommend arriving over three hours before midnight.
For the record-breaking fireworks on the Palm, hot foot down to Sunset Beach where you’ll get to witness Atlantis’ attempt at a record breaking display – and you’ll also have the added bonus of a prime view of the Burj Al Arab’s show.
Here’s some more ideas about where to start:
DUBAI CREEK GOLF CLUB
Pull up a perch at Boardwalk or enjoy the fiesta at QD’s – both spots overlook the Dubai skyline.
QD’s, Deira (04 380 1234).
Pack some NYE snacks, a picnic rug and a sweater, then head to the beach to take in the spectacular show at the Burj Al Arab. You may also catch a glimpse of the firework action at Atlantis.
Free. On the right of Burj Al Arab, Umm Suqeim (no number).
THE WALK AT JBR
Yes, it will probably be mobbed, but for a cheaper NYE meal this is the place to be. The view of the beach itself may have disappeared, but you’ll still get a good view of the fireworks on the Palm. Alternatively, opt for a takeaway and sit on the sand.
One of the best (free) seats in the house for watching the Burj Khalifa’s impressive display. We recommend getting there in the late afternoon unless you want to spend the countdown to midnight in a taxi or trying to get out of the metro station.
