Approximately 10 minutes later the Burj Al Arab took over the celebrations with a show of approximately 5 minutes long.

Then, at around 12.20am, after an unexpected delay of around 20 minutes the hugely anticipated Palm Jumeirah and World Island show began.

More than 400,000 fireworks were set off along the trunk and fronds of the Palm Island and around the Word Island in Dubai.

Guinness World Record officials are currently counting the fireworks to see if the firework display breaks the record for the biggest ever firework display.
