11km boardwalk to be built 'around' the Palm

Nakheel unveil their latest ambitious schemes for pedestrians

Knowledge story, The Knowledge

Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah is set to get even more attractions, this time built by the island project’s developer. Nakheel has announced it will build a boardwalk around the entire 11km of the Palm’s crescent, sitting over the existing breakwater rocks. As well as more than 20 kiosks selling food, drinks and souvenirs, the extension will include two piers, stretching 100 metres outwards from either end of the crescent, each with restaurants and cafés.

The ambitious extension will no doubt attraction thousands more visitors, and though it won’t be finished for some time (tenders for construction will only start in the second quarter of this year) we can’t help but ponder the implications for congestion. Whether the new piers will include boat terminals remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a brilliant idea.
