Housing allowances to increase in Dubai

41 percent of companies plan to give more cash, says research

Knowledge story, The Knowledge

As rental rates and property prices continue to soar across the city, HR strategist firm Mercer has revealed research suggesting that 41 percent of companies in Dubai are planning to raise the housing allowances of their staff to help them cope with the cost of living, with the average rise forecast to be around 9.8 percent.

While the increase is not likely to cover the total rise in what employees are paying out (rents in Dubai rose an average of 22 percent in 2013), it will certainly help residents keep up in what is becoming an increasingly expensive place to live.
