Homemade style talent prospers

New range from Dubai designers shows a healthy scene

Knowledge story, The Knowledge

This week: Local label Abeer Al Suwaidi shows its new wares, on a bridge.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a Dubai first, but last week local label Abeer Al Suwaidi (04 344 2202) kept things interesting with a fashion show held on Zaabeel Park Bridge in the city. Showcasing her new collection, Taboo, which is themed around four elements including magic, tribal, art and glass, the established abaya designer Al Suwaidi sent models down the bridge runway to much applause.

Meanwhile, if you’re already a fan of urban label Puma (04 284 3217), consider this more reason to get behind the brand: Swedish cool cat and progressive house DJ Axwell (one third of what was once Swedish House Mafia) has been named Puma’s lifestyle brand ambassador for spring/spring 2014. The long-haired Swede appears in a campaign shot by renowned photographer Kenneth Cappello.

Lastly, there’s finally a good reason to stop procrastinating in the face of those DIY home projects this month. Mr fix-it ACE Hardware (04 341 1906) is offering discounts, bundle offers and sales on selected products across all its stores until Monday April 7. Happy shopping!
