Autumn 2014 gig predictions

Kanye, Katy Perry and Robbie Williams eying Dubai gigs?

The Knowledge

As the season slows after the last few huge outdoor gigs (Kings of Leon, Black Sabbath) we’re starting to ponder about who will be gigging in the UAE after the summer lull. Aside from the huge news (Lady Gaga’s at Meydan Racecourse on September 10, One Direction at The Sevens Stadium next April 4), there’s precious little confirmed. But we’ve made some informed guesses:

Rap superstar Kanye West is gigging Australia in mid-September, surely a UAE gig could be squeezed in on the way home? Robbie Williams is in Sydney a few weeks later, too, and is a proven Dubai expat hit. After his huge 2006 desert show, it would be no shock to hear he’s visiting the emirates again.

Added to our wish list would be retro UK songwriter Jake Bugg and former Fugee Lauryn Hill, who are both hitting the road in Europe in October.

Further ahead, Katy Perry’s mammoth autumn tour is taking her all over the US in October before a long stint in Australia in November. We wouldn’t be at all surprised to see her parachute in for a local show on the way over.

One thing that is confirmed is a chilled outdoor gig in October from... someone. Promoters Ohm Events pioneered the bean-bags-and-strummed-acoustics ‘Unplugged’ concept with a glorious Kate Nash gig at Madinat Jumeirah back in February 2012, but then never came through with a follow-up. Now however they’ve announced the concept is being resuscitated in October. Better late than never.

And of course, the news that Sandance will return on October 10 and November 14 - although the acts performing are still a well-guarded secret for now.
