Floating wheelchairs - now in Dubai

Emirate's beaches now among the most accessible in the region

Knowledge story, The Knowledge

Dubai’s beaches are now among the most accessible in the region, thanks to Dubai Municipality’s latest initiative to get elderly and disabled wheelchair users into the water. Al Mamzar and Jumeirah beaches are now home to 15 swimming wheelchairs, brought to the city from France and costing Dhs9,000 each. Both beaches have a team of lifeguards and trainers to help people use the new facilities, which are available free of charge. If the project is successful over the coming months, more chairs will likely be provided.
