This week’s foodie news and rumours

A week of sweet Eid treats, followed by a month of afternoon tea, sushi and Indian cooking specials

Knowledge story, The Knowledge

Coming up towards the end of this week, is one of the biggest events of the year in Dubai: Eid al Fitr. Looking ahead to Eid, we’ve found a few new treats on sale in Dubai to help you celebrate in sweet style.

Dubai-born chocolatier Delice is offering a range of Eid gifts that includes macaroons, stuffed dates and a selection of chocolates, featuring sugar free choccies. The luxurious looking packaging even includes the option of Swarovski crystal studded boxes.

Also offering a special range for Ramadan and Eid is confectioner Candlelite. Here, you’ll find items such as Eid hampers, filled with chocolate products from Lindt, Maxim’s, Churchills and Montezuma’s, as well as Khidri dates and a selection of other traditional Arabic sweets. Also available are themed cupcakes and whole celebration cakes.

From cake, our mind has naturally wandered to afternoon tea. Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers will be launching a new afternoon tea offering from Friday August 1, located in The Lobby Café (and served daily from 3pm to 6pm). This new meal at the hotel will include an assortment of scones, cakes, sandwiches and house tea, priced at Dhs120.

There is also news this week from Jones the Grocer. The café is operating home delivery from its new store in Al Safa 3 (at the Etihad Travel Mall on Sheikh Zayed Road), which is currently open until 4am for iftar and suhoor during Ramadan. Jones the Grocer is now delivering to a wider network than before, spanning Sheikh Zayed Road, Palm Jumeirah, Al Quoz and now also DIFC and JLT as well. Until Sunday August 31, Jones the Grocer is offering home delivery customers a voucher for a free burger, valid for any listed on the menu.

Finally, Meliá Dubai has announced plenty of new food plans for the summer. Kicking off next month in August, the programme of events features the Hyderabad biryani and Nizami food festival at Signature by Sanjeev Kapoor. The restaurant of Indian celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor will be showcasing Nizami cooking, which is an ancient Indian cuisine, known for slow cooking techniques and skilled use of spicing. Throughout August, the restaurant will be offering an à la carte menu special, featuring dishes such as dumpukth Hyderabadi biryani, nahiri gosht and Hyderabadi haleem, all available on request.

Also new for August at the hotel are sushi rolling lessons at Alfonso X. The classes will cover how to slice the fish, guidance on how to use wasabi and how to finish the rolls by rolling them up. Guests will be offered unlimited Japanese beverages during the classes and can eat their sushi creations at the end. If you want to test, or brush up on your sushi rolling skills, classes are Dhs119 per person, but for a minimum of ten people.

Until next week, bon appétit!
