There are few C-grade celebrity collaborations we get excited about, but this one has piqued our interest. British actress and former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan is dabbling in fashion design (perhaps in an effort to help influence the style-deprived cast of TOWIE, through which her fiancé Mark Wright found fame). Having teamed up with UK high-street fashion label Lipsy (04 325 3552), Michelle has created a collection of more than 30 glamourous high-street pieces, due in Dubai stores on August 17.

Meanwhile, Dubai Summer Surprises (www.summerisdubai.com) has kicked off around the city and there is a host of cool things going down at The Dubai Mall this month. Reality TV fans can meet fashion icon Kimora Lee Simmons, founder of ghetto fabulous brand Baby Phat. There will also be a display celebrating the 40th anniversary of Japanese kitsch cult brand Hello Kitty, with a vintage shop featuring rare collectibles, workshops and art installations.

Lastly, while you’re at The Dubai Mall, check out the new resident at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. A Giant Pacific Octopus, measuring 4.3 metres and weighing in at 70kg, the species is incredibly intelligent and can work out puzzles and memorise routes with ease. An ideal shopping companion?
