Knowledge story, The Knowledge

The focus will be firmly on local talent at this year’s Gulf Bike Week.

Now expanding to host two music stages for the first time, UAE rockers including Nikotin, Riff Raff and Kicksound will perform at the Dubai Media City event, October 30-November 1.

A total of 15 acts will perform 31 sets over the three days, building on the success of last year’s event at the same venue, which also featured local bands in top billings.

Previous incarnations of the festival were hosted at Festival City and headlined by acts as diverse as Amy Winehouse, Deep Purple Pharrell Williams and Megadeth.

The complete list of bands performing at this year’s event is:
The Boxtones - hard rock/rock
Fat Randall - pop/punk
Riff Raff - rock
Nikotin - rock/hard rock
Daisygrim - Alternative rock
Kicksound - rock
U2Gulf - U2 tribute band

Oliver Ephgrave, frontman of Kicksound, said: ‘Gulf Bike Week is a fantastic opportunity for Kicksound. So far we've played mainly small scale gigs, so we can’t wait to perform at Media City Amphitheatre – a venue that’s put on shows from Eric Clapton and Iron Maiden.

‘We’re also pleased to see great local bands like Nikotin and Riff Raff on the bill, so hats off to the promoters for giving local bands a chance to shine on the big stage. It’s not just an event for bikers – it’s a real celebration of the local music scene. We’re expecting a festival atmosphere and we’re very excited to be playing.’

Tickets for the 2014 event are Dhs65 a day in advance, and Dhs90 on the day. See www.gulfbikeweek.com for more.
