Dust of the flip-flops and grab your best designer sunnies – Sandance is back.

Breaking a five-month summer lull the Atlantis beach fest clocks back in for business on October 10, rocking one of its most thoroughly hip-shaking line-ups in, well, ages.

The bill stars groovemakers old, young and from all corners of the globe – with vintage US hip-hoppers De La Soul going head to head with Brit bass upstarts Rudimental and Aussie electro duo Empire of the Sun. The groove-centric programme also stars sudden synth-pop upstarts Clean Bandit, with a big closing DJ still to be announced.

Exploding onto the scene with UK number ones ‘Feel the Love’ and ‘Waiting all Night’ (that’s 127 million YouTube hits right there), Rudimental return to Sandance after a barnstorming live set last November, which saw a huge band and multiple vocalists bring their distinct brand of danceable drum n’ bass to the Atlantis massive.

De La Soul are no stranger to Dubai either. Last spotted at 2012’s Chill Out Festival, the quintessential hip-hop trio return in the year they celebrate both a quarter-century since trailblazing debut LP 3 Feet High and Rising, and the release of their first album of new material in a decade.

Named after JG Ballard’s wartime novel (and Spielberg’s film adaptation), Empire of the Sun caused waves with 2008 singles ‘Walking on a Dream’ and ‘We Are the People’, then disappeared, promptly returning with last year’s second LP Ice on the Dune and its breakout hit ‘Alive’. Renowned for dancey grooves, poppy melodies and dramatic stage shows and costumes – think a 21st Century take on the last Sandance headliner, Pet Shop Boys – they’re a guaranteed live draw.

Completing the live bill is Clean Blandit, best known for last year’s breakout ‘Rather Be’, featuring vocalist Jess Glynn (who won’t be making the trip, sadly).

Tickets for the event, priced at Dhs295 for early bird, Dhs325 for regular and Dhs500 for VIP, are on sale now from Time Out Tickets here.
