DSF success

Shoppers hit the stores for DSF while bargain-hunters head for Dubai Outlet Mall

The credit crunch may be hitting the UAE, but it hasn’t held bargain-hunters back as Dubai Shopping Festival looks set to be the best yet. Buyers are also seeking out further bargains and hitting Dubai’s only outlet mall on Al Ain Road to stock up.

The number of people seeking out bargains at the mall rose by 15 percent from November to 500,000. “The downturn in the global economy is making customers consider every single dirham that they spend and the everyday discounts of between 30 to 90 percent available at Dubai Outlet Mall are enticing,” director Vishal Mahajan said.

The number of visitors jumped 40 percent on the year, partly due to greater awareness of the relatively newly opened mall. Phase one of Dubai Outlet Mall opened in August 2007. Mahajan added that customer understanding of the “outlet” concept has also improved since the opening.

The mall is home to 240 stores that sell discounted products from more than 800 brands.
